(NOTE: These races, and their info, are the natural powers they possess, but through time, they can gain more, and become stronger, and wiser. As well as every character has a chance to become a deity. A deity is immortal, and can only be destroyed by another deity, or by some weapon that is completely unnatural. Which are extremely rare cases.)
Human: The Humans, start less-superior, but work their way up, to very high heights. They admire, and worship deities. Most humans, if they catch sight of a mystical creature, get suprised, and usually its a sign. Humans generally use weapons they craft themselves, but, their gods, and demons, as well as creatures in general, have many other weapons, that sometimes, only a true warrior can wield. Humans are the most complex race withing ancient Japan, since they have alot more emotional experience, they may seem normal, or average, but surely, they are not...
Tanuki (Raccoon Dog): This race of legendary creatures, is mystical to the Japanese people. A Tanuki has the ability to shapeshift, it also is a master of disguise. Generally thought out to be mischievous, and jolly. They have exceptionally large bellies, and they can use them as a defense against any magical attack.
Kitsune (Fox): This race, is also mystical. It's natural abilities are transformation. Every Kitsune, when born, starts with one tail. Another tail grows, as the Kitsune gets stronger, and wiser. Kitsune tend to prefer transforming into beautiful things, which [/right]can get them to many places, within the human world. The only slight weakness a Kitsune has, when it transforms, is that its shadow, when transformed, may look like a fox, and that is the weakness of its transformations, through time, as a Kitsune grows more tails, it will learn to use fire, and lightning with its tail and/or mouth.
Oni- An Oni, is a demon, devil, ogre and/or troll. Oni are feared generally, by humans. They are big, ugly, monsters, with tremendous strength. They are humanoids for the most part. Usually, and Oni has sharp claws, and wild hair. Sometimes an Oni may not look as humanoid, some of them can have extra toes, eyes, fingers, arms ect... They normally wield an iron club, also known as a Kanabo, but they can wield other weapons. Oni's also have the ability to go invisible, for a few moments, as to engage on an enemy. That is why they can be depicted as "bad spirits" but it is hard to hit an innocent human, who has items, and rituals used to protect their houses, and families from these creatures.
Kappa- A Kappa, is a water sprite (a sprite is generally, elf-like, or fairy-like, even dwarf-like.) Kappa's normally remain close to water, but they do have the ability to walk on land. They cannot be on land, normally, for more then a couple days, they need to take breaks, the way they manage to walk on land is that they store large amounts of water in their horns, and skulls, it is not that notcieable. They are usually blue, green, or yellow, but they can come in all colors. Their face is ape-like, but they have mildly sharp teeth. They like to pull pranks, from looking up womens kimono's, to kidnapping a young boy. They are quite strong, they also have the ability to cast upon violent water on their enemies, when near bodies of water, when out of water, they would have to use the water they stored in their heads, to attack. They have claws, as well as a shell-like back.
Tengu- Tengu, are goblin-like creatures, they are humanoids. They can think like humans, and speak like them too. One trait they have thats obvious, is a long, or large nose. Tengu can transform, but their transformations are hardest to master. Some Tengu are born with wings, others are not. They do not have sharp teeth. Tengu, are widely known as signs of war, even sometimes, mountain spirits. Many Tengu, have great potential, especially in martial arts, they have 2 legs, and 2 arms, and are very similar to humans, yet, they have special advantages. Tengu can come in many different shapes and sizes, and usually try to follow some sort of religious background.
Dragon- The Dragons, start young and small, and become large and powerful. As a Dragon at birth, you either have some control over the water, or some control over the fire. It is extremely rare to have control over both. Dragon's usually have to be raised on their own this is apart of all the wisdom they attain, they have serpentine bodies, and instead of using wings (which they dont have) they float, using strong magical energy. Dragons have high potential, they cannot use weapons or where that much clothing, but despite that, they become strong and wise.
Human Transformation: The Human Transformation race, is a human, who was born with a curse. Most of the time, the curse, makes that human take a different form, depending on how the human is feeling emotionally, and the stronger the emotion, the stronger the transformation will be. Examples would be: Jealousy, Hatred, Revenge...All the bad traits, these effect your curse.
Sacred Object: As a Sacred Object, you dont move much, but you are extremely special, very, very special. Usually crafted by a deity (which is a god) or some other powerful reason. Whoever finds you, must learn to master your power, and potential, and you both must cooperate, it is a unique type of character, but hard to master. Yet, in some cases, a sacred object has the ability to move, and battle on its own, if fueled by some special source of magical energy or something.
Okami: Okami are mystical Japanese wolves. Naturally, they possess the ability of speed, and also powerful rune abilities, like painting objects, or using damage by marking something with the Okami's artistic offense. They are naturally messagners of the sun goddess, Amaterasu. Some Okami, branch out of the "pack" of messangers. They say some Okami possess the ability of fire, and wind. It is quite rare though.
(NOTE: As a Human, these other races, would be completely new to you, so it would not be something you normally see, unless it involves coming from somewhere in your life, that has these mystical creatures.)
